Convert an image for its next destination

An image converter is useful when a picture looks fine but its file type does not fit the place you want to use it. A downloaded WebP may need to become a JPG for an upload form. A phone photo may arrive as HEIC when the recipient expects PNG. A large PNG photograph may be better suited to a compressed format before you add it to a website.

Choose the output for that destination, rather than changing the extension by hand. This image converter reads the source picture and creates a new file. Your original stays available, so you can keep it as a master and use the converted copy for sharing.

JPG, PNG or WebP?

JPG is a practical choice for photographs and other pictures with gradual changes in color. You can adjust its quality to balance detail and file size. JPG does not keep transparent areas. Choose the background color you want behind a cutout before saving it.

PNG is useful for transparent artwork, screenshots, diagrams and graphics with sharp edges. PNG keeps the visible image without adding another round of JPG-style compression, but the file can be considerably larger. Saving a blurry source as PNG does not recover missing detail.

WebP offers another option for web images and supports transparency. Check that the website, app or recipient accepts WebP before making it your only delivery format. A file that is small but rejected by its destination has not solved the upload problem.

How to convert an image online

  1. Add the pictures you want to convert, then choose your output format.
  2. Review the available quality and background settings for that format.
  3. Process the images, inspect the results and download the copies you need.

You can add up to 30 files in a batch, with a combined input size of 160 MB. Each image must be no larger than 40 MB and 24 megapixels. A small file can still exceed the pixel limit: compressed size and picture dimensions measure different things. Split a larger collection into smaller batches.

What this image converter changes

Conversion changes how a picture is stored. It does not automatically remove its background, erase objects or extract its text. If a PNG contains a white rectangle around a logo, saving it as another PNG leaves that rectangle in place. Use background removal when you want a transparent cutout.

Likewise, a converted file is still an image. A screenshot of a paragraph saved as JPG does not become editable text. The image-to-text tool can recognize printed text when copying the words is your actual task.

The image converter accepts still images. Animated WebP, animated PNG and image sequences are not supported; export a single still frame in another tool before converting it here. Keep the original animation if playback matters.

Avoid an unnecessary conversion chain

Start from the best original you have. Converting JPG to WebP, then back to JPG, can add compression changes each time a lossy file is saved. Make each delivery copy from the original rather than from a previous conversion.

If the destination specifies dimensions as well as a format, resize the image deliberately. Changing PNG to JPG does not, by itself, make a 4000-pixel photograph fit a 1200-pixel requirement. If the limit is expressed in kilobytes, use image compression and check the finished size.

For a mixed batch, inspect more than one result. A setting that suits a landscape photograph may soften small text in a screenshot. Separate photographs from text-heavy graphics when you need different settings.

Questions about image conversion

Can I convert an image online without an account?

Yes. Choose files and run the image converter without signing in. Picture processing takes place in your browser; keep the tab open until the results are ready.

Which formats does the image converter accept?

JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and AVIF are supported inputs. You can save to WebP, JPG or PNG. This is not a converter for every camera RAW, vector or design-file format.

Will the converted image always be smaller?

No. The result depends on the original, the chosen format and the quality setting. PNG may be larger than the JPG it came from, while an already compressed image may offer little room for reduction.

Does conversion improve resolution?

No. Converting an image changes its file format, not the amount of genuine detail in the source. Keep the original dimensions unless you have a separate reason to resize.
